Obituary of Edward Anthony Gnade

A Memorial Mass for Edward Anthony Gnade of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church near Old Monroe. Fr. Richard Rath, church pastor, will officiate. Inurnment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery will be at a later date. Mr. Gnade, 97, passed away Thursday evening, June 25, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, MO. Born February 1, 1918 in East St. Louis, IL, he was the son of Anthony J. and Katherine Weiss Gnade. Edward graduated from St. Louis University High School in St. Louis and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from St. Louis University. He served his country in the United States Army from November 20, 1941 until he was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant on February 25, 1946. Edward was united in marriage on October 14, 1952 in Old Monroe to Catherine Dickherber. This union was blessed with four children: Charlotte, Bruce, Barry and Jennifer. Edward worked in several hardware stores over the years, owning his own for a time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Katherine Gnade; three sisters: Catherine Burkemper, Margaret Burkemper and Louise Gnade; and his brother, Albert Gnade. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Catherine Dickherber of Old Monroe; and their children: Charlotte George and her husband, Steve, of St. Charles, MO, Bruce Gnade and his wife, Linda, of Dallas, TX, Barry Gnade and his wife, Linda, of St. Charles and Jennifer Lorch and her husband, Jason, of Paducah, KY. Edward also leaves ten grandchildren: Derek, Paul, Emily, Melissa (Admir Brkic), Andy (Allison Brett), Alex, Michael, Madeline, Megan and Olivia; one great-grandson, Bennett; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family was assisted by Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO.
