Obituary of James Boyd Serles

Funeral Services for James Boyd “Jay” Serles, Jr. of Elsberry, MO will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Conrad Cheatam, pastor of the Elsberry ARPresbyterian Church, will officiate with burial in New Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be David Bierman, Chris Zumwalt, Scott Serles, Mark Serles, Joe Serles and Forrest Collings. Mr. Serles, 38, passed away late Wednesday night, June 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, MO. Born December 6, 1976 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of James Boyd and Harriet Jane Johnson Serles. Jay was a 1996 graduate of Elsberry High School where he ran track and played soccer. Jay was a former volunteer firefighter for the Elsberry Fire Protection District. He went on to graduate from WyoTech in Laramie, WY. Jay worked in the auto body industry. He was preceded in death by one uncle, John Serles; his grandparents: Eugene and Imogene Johnson and John and Vera Serles. Survivors include his parents, Jim and Harriet Serles of Elsberry; his sister, Tracy Lynn Kern of Webster Groves, MO; and his nephews: Jacob Scott Hammond and Elijah Robert Kern. Jay also leaves his companion, Dawn Ragland; two uncles: Joseph Serles and his wife, Paula, and Philip Serles and his wife, Jan; his aunt, Joyce Serles; his cousins: Mark Serles, Scott Serles, Joe Serles and his wife, Marcia, and Jennifer Haynes and her husband, Kevin, and their children: Addison, Wyatt and Jersey Haynes; other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Lincoln County Cupboard in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
