Obituary of Betty Jo Miner

Funeral Services for Betty Jo Miner of Troy, MO will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO. Rev. Craig Rogers, pastor of the New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield, will officiate. Mrs. Miner will be buried in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA following a family graveside service. Mrs. Miner, 85, passed away Friday evening, June 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy. Born July 1, 1929 in Ruston, LA, she was the daughter of James Columbus and Elizabeth Louise Kirbow Berry. Betty Jo was united in marriage in April 1949 in Georgia to Joseph Raymond Holmes. This union was blessed with three sons: Steven Raymond, Michael Joseph and John Gregory. Mr. Holmes passed away in 1958. Betty Jo was married again on April 8, 1963 in Virginia to Raymond Miner. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Joanne Maria, who joined his older children: William, Richard, Mary, Paul and Kendall. Betty Jo was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for the U.S. Department of Defense at the Pentagon, retiring in 1988. She was a lifetime member of the VFW in Lawrenceville, GA; a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #127 in Buford, GA; and remained close with the 401st Bomber Squadron. Betty Jo was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth Berry; three brothers: William Columbus “Bill” Berry, James Spenser Berry and a brother who died in infancy; four sisters: Mattie Louola Byrd, Annie Mae Simpson, Gloria Jean Harvey and Laura Edna King; her first husband, Joseph Holmes in 1958; and her beloved husband of 48 years, Raymond Miner who died October 13, 2011. Survivors include three sons: Steven R. Holmes and his wife, Dana of St. Paul, MO, Michael J. Holmes of Pensacola, FL and John G. Holmes and his wife, Barbara, of Winfield; one daughter, Joanne M. Mauricio and her husband, Ernesto, of Snellville, GA; five step-children: Bill Miner and his wife, Barbara, of Pensacola, Richard R. Miner and his wife, Pat, of St. Ann, MO, Mary Louise Miner of Mesquite, TX, Paul A. Miner of Bowling Green, MO, and Kendall Miner of Schertz, TX; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Betty Jo also leaves one sister, Sarah Alack of New Orleans, LA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
