Obituary of Verna Dean Brooks

Funeral Services for Verna Dean Brooks of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Mark Payne, pastor of Calvary Chapel near Winfield, will officiate with burial in Bethany Cemetery near Foley, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Altman, Robert Myer, Shane Bertels, Bradley Harke, Cliff Kuntz, Jason Myer, Marc Hamlin, Ryan Myer and Tyler Myer. Mrs. Brooks, 77, passed away late Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015 at her home. Born May 9, 1938 in Lacon, IL, she was the daughter of Merlin and Wilma May Walker Curtis. Verna was united in marriage on August 17, 1964 in Phoenix, AZ to Gerald William Brooks. This union was blessed with six children: Margaret, Russell, Pat, Jeffrey, Lori and Lisa. Verna was employed as an inspector for Puritan Bennett in St. Louis, MO, retiring in 2003. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ near Old Monroe, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Wilma Curtis; her twin sister, Myrna Simmons; and her beloved husband of 29 years, Gerald Brooks who died December 28, 1993. Survivors her children: Margaret Altman and her husband, Stanley, of Steedman, MO, Russell Myer and his wife, Julie, of Wright City, MO, Pat Hamlin and her husband, Paul, of Troy, MO, Jeffrey Myer and his fiancée, Mindy, of Indiana, Lori Kuntz and her husband, Lanny, of Hawk Point, MO and Lisa Harke and her husband, Vince, of Old Monroe, MO; nine grandsons, seven granddaughters, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren. Verna also leaves one sister, Irene Rowland of Moline, IL; one brother, Theodore Curtis of Kewanee, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
