Obituary of Mary Wanda Wilson

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Wanda Wilson of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Fr. Richard Rath, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Nicholas Chase, Adam Grigery, Lucas Grigery, Zachary Wilson, Austin Wilson, Alexander Wilson, Gavin Wilson and William Wright. Mrs. Wilson, 83, passed away Monday afternoon, March 16, 2015 at her home. Born July 4, 1931 in Calhoun, IL, she was the daughter of Carl Michael and Goldie Mae Becker Ewen. Mary was a 1949 graduate of East Alton Community High School. She was united in marriage on October 25, 1958 in East Alton, IL to Yousuf Archibald Wilson. This union was blessed with seven children: Elizabeth, Barbara, Stephen, David, Virginia, Frederick and Peggy. Early in her career, Mary worked as the secretary for Olin Brass Mill in East Alton, IL and St. Charles Planing Mill. She also worked for Wilson Player Pianos in O’Fallon, MO and in the corporate office for Venture, until her retirement in the early 1990’s. Mary was a member of the Old Monroe Lions Club, Loose Threads Quilt Guild, a small quilt group in St. Charles, MO, Automatic Musical Instrument Collector’s Association (AMICA), Carousel Organ Association, Music Box Society International and a former member of Edwardsville, IL Garden Club. Mary was currently a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Goldie Ewen; her brother, Carl Gene Ewen; and one sister, Virginia Nash. Survivors include her beloved husband of 56 years, Yousuf Wilson of Old Monroe: four daughters: Elizabeth A. Garber and her husband, Thomas, of Cleburne, TX, Barbara K. Wilson and her husband, Bob Butt, of Littleton, CO, Virginia S. Grigery and her husband, Daren, of Old Monroe and Peggy J. Wright and her husband, Ray, of Prairie Home, MO; three sons: Stephen J. Wilson of St. Paul, MO, David E. Wilson of Overland, MO and Frederick P. Wilson of Golden, CO; twenty grandchildren: Nick Chase and his wife, Stacey, Carrie Chase, Stacey Chase, Kayleigh Garber, Jessica Butt, Marisa Butt, Zachary Wilson, Austin Wilson, Alexander Wilson, Gavin Wilson, Sarah Mullner and her husband, Joshua, Meghan Sneed and her husband, Gregory, Adam Grigery, Lucas Grigery, Pearl Wilson, Libbie Wilson, Josey Wright, Cecelia Wright, Georgie Wright and Will Wright; and five great-grandchildren: Ellycia Benson, Vivian Chase, Samuel Sneed, Curtis Sneed and Aiden Wilson. Mary also leaves two sisters: Martha Funke and her husband, Fred, of Edwardsville and Vera Vetter of Brighton, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield and again from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Friday and the Funeral Home.
